Week 13 of 15Finish strong

Exam 3 Week

Bring the whole system: plan, mix, sleep, strategy.

In BIO 243 around now

Exam 3 usually lands around here and covers the nervous system chapters (12, 13 and 16): action potentials, synapses, brain and spinal cord anatomy, cranial nerves and the neurological exam.

The big idea

This is your third exam with this system. You know the moves: plan backward, test yourself, mix the topics, sleep, use your strategy on exam day, and read your results after.

The nervous system rewards connecting structure to function. For each region, ask: what does it do, and what would happen if it were damaged? The neurological exam in Chapter 16 is exactly that idea in practice.

Check your Exam 2 wrapper one more time. Your top miss type gets the top spot in this week's plan.

A&P in action

Structure to function: the cerebellum coordinates movement and balance, so damage shows up as clumsy, uncoordinated movement (a neuro exam checks this with finger-to-nose). The medulla controls breathing and heart rate. Broca's area (frontal lobe) is involved in producing speech. One table, many exam questions.

Smart AI move

Ask AI to turn your structure-and-function table into a quiz, then check every answer it gives against Chapters 13 and 16.

Check yourself

What is the best way to study brain regions for an exam?

  1. Memorize the names in alphabetical order
  2. Link each region to its function and what damage would look like
  3. Color the diagram
  4. Read the chapter once more

Linking structure, function and damage builds the connected knowledge exam questions test.

Your Exam 2 wrapper showed timing problems. What belongs in your Exam 3 plan?

  1. More rereading
  2. Timed practice sets
  3. Skipping hard questions entirely
  4. Nothing new

A timing problem needs timed practice.

Which exam habit is now automatic for you? Which still takes effort?
